“The soul of the whole lives in the details” — Ludwig Mies van der Rohe*

Emdigio is a graphic design studio, rooted in Dutch design but with international aspirations. We cater to a variety of clients in the Netherlands and the USA. We believe in a no-nonsense approach, but always leave plenty of room for beauty. Working in a wide range of media, we provide our clients with graphic concepts, branding, visual identities, editorial and publications design, environmental graphics, infographics and illustrations. We love to design things on paper and on screen, utilize beautiful fonts, bright and subdued colors, natural papers, and powerful icons.

Approach

Our typical design process involves three steps: we embrace your organisation’s values, empower you or your cause with a recognizable look, and embed it into your entire presence.

Embrace

First, we listen. To your story: who you are, what you do and where you want to go. Understanding and embracing your values is important in order to create a fitting, personalized solution for your specific situation.

Empower

A new look is like a brand new suit. Straighten your back and feel the pride. Shine. It won’t go unnoticed.

Embed

Take your new look and expand it over your entire being: your business card, your internal and external communications, your online presence, hey — even your office. The possibilities are unlimited.

History

Founder Martyn Deurloo studied graphic design in both The Hague and Rotterdam, The Netherlands. After working at a design studio in Amsterdam for two years, he took off to New York to work at 2×4 and Opto Design, before working as a freelance designer for, among others, Sotheby’s New York and FormNation. Upon returning to Rotterdam in 2011, he established his own practice.

Martyn’s education combines a conceptual, editorial design approach and thorough typographic schooling. Gifted with a great eye for detail and a strong feel for languages, he has developed a way of accurately sensing clients’ needs, and the ability to translate these into fresh and compelling outcomes.

* This phrase is usually translated from German as “The Devil is in the Detail”. However, we think this doesn’t fully do justice to the richness of the original.
